When we’re losing….

Posted: 14 February 2011 in Ramblings

…it doesn’t mean we’re lost*. We all have bad days. Some of us have bad weeks. And, yes, some of us have bad years. ad nauseum. Many of us can reflect on lives that seem as if we’re always losing. It seems as if we’ve lost everything we ever possessed. Due to bad decisions, friends have disconnected. Perhaps even family have left us feeling alone. Every ‘game’ in life seems to have us finishing at the bottom of the stats. Yup, we’re losing…

…but that doesn’t mean we’re lost. Each one of us is loved by our Father in Heaven. That being true, how can we be lost? If one feels lost to our Father in Heaven; if one feels alone and forsaken, they need to hear that even those who God chose as His messengers felt that way at times. Isaiah wrote, “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips…” (Isaiah 6:5) One lament was written, “…they flung me alive into the pit and cast stones on me; water closed over my head; I said, ‘I am lost.’ (Lamentations 3:53-54) Even King David knew what it meant to be lost, yet he also knew God looked for him: “I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments. “ (Psalm 119:176)

God loved King David. He knew David’s difficulties and his failures. Just as He knows of each and every one of those times you have lost at what you were trying to do. Each failed game. Each failed plan. Each failed job. Each failed relationship. Yes, you and I seem to be perpetually losing…

…but that doesn’t mean we’re lost. Especially for those who are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, we are most assuredly NOT lost. When we cry out to God, He hears us. When we ask forgiveness of our failures, for the sake of His Son our Lord, those failures are forgiven. Even those which we continue to fail at. Those things which unfortunately identify us. If we ask for strength and perseverance from our Father in Heaven, in Him we can find those things. With the help of God, we can ensure that, although we lose, we are never lost.
